Good Friday ThoughtsBy Marty Schutte | 4/10/2020
I am truly honored to be bringing you
this Good Friday devotional. It is on
this day that we remember the day Jesus was crucified and died for our sins. My thoughts as a child
were always to ask “Why did Jesus stay on that cross? What kept Him there?”
Hebrews 12:2 Fixing our eyes on
Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before Him
endured the cross, despising shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the
throne of God.
Have you ever considered that Jesus
was the only man who has ever understood the wrath of God? All of us have a
small inadequate view of God’s perfection. Jesus fully understood the full
measure of God’s Holy anger. Jesus embraced God’s wrath on the cross because of
His obedience in submission to the Father. By His submission to the Father’s
plan, He demonstrated His unreserved love for the Father. The only place we see
the wrath of God toward sin fully satisfied is when His Son bore our sins on
the cross and died.
Church family, think about this. The
full wrath of God was on Jesus that day. He paid the price for our sins. What
kept Him there? It was love for the Father and His love for us.
John 14:30-31 I will not speak much
more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;
but so the world may know that I love the Father.
So today when you pray, make sure to
say thank you to God for not unleashing His full wrath upon His hatred of all
our sin personally. Then say thank you to the One who lovingly submitted to
that wrath for us.
God bless,
Elder Marty
