Marty's Friday Devotion
By Marty Schutte | 4/17/2020

Dear Church Family,

I don’t know about you but the stay at home rules that have proven to save lives are also hard to do when everyone is cooped up in the same house. We are used to our freedom to travel to and fro, dine alone or out on the town with others. We are used to “Having It Our Way”. And now our styles are cramped forcing us to share. I have been listening to more radio programs and trying to avoid television and the internet.

Have you ever listened to one of the all time favorite radio stations? WII-FM

It is on in every city. Reception is always good. Programs run 24/7. It broadcasts in all languages. It often causes huge discussions among listeners.

WII-FM The handle stands for "What’s In It For Me?" I think if we are all honest we would admit to tuning into that one pretty often. We all have within us the potential to be selfish. We want it "our way". We tend to put ourselves first. But this is contrary to what God desires from us. And is definitely not what we need at this time.

Philippians 2:1-4
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Next time it comes to a choice and others are involved, you be Burger King and say "Let's have it your way." You'll be doing the right thing and in some instances you can avoid an argument, frustration, or anger.

After all, Jesus put us all first when He stretched out His arms and paid the price for our sins on the cross. Let's imitate the One who knows best. He set the standard.

God bless,

Marty
