Devotion on Christ’s Body

1 Corinthians 12:27 (NLT): All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

Last Sunday at Youth Group online we talked about how God has wired us together for fellowship, communion, and connection to one another. We called it the Koinonia Concept. It has rarely been as evident as it is during this pandemic that the body of Christ is functioning as the hands and feet of Christ as we strive to help one another get through this crisis.

There are at least three clear ways that we (the church) can be the hands of Christ to this community.

1. Our hands can bring comfort to those who are suffering or experiencing hardships.

2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (NLT) 3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

2. Our hands can bring healing to those who are sick, or need to be reminded of God’s forgiveness.

James 5:13–16 (NLT) 13 Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. 14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. 16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

3. Our hands can bring others to Jesus.

1 Peter 3:15 (NLT): Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.

As we love and care for others from a distance during this time, may we point many others to the God who gives hope in the midst of any trying time.
